Painted on a Burnt
Umber acrylic gesso background, on a 10" round canvas. The colours used were, Ivory Black, Burnt Umber, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Orange and Titanium White. Zest-it Clear Painting Medium was used to give smooth brush work and to facilitate blending, only a small amount is needed. For the large leaves a 1/2" Sable/synthetic flat One-stroke brush was used. For the small leaves a No. 2 Rigger and the paint thinned with Zest-it Oil Paint Dilutant and Brush Cleaner. Zest-it products. A No. 6 and No. 2 Round Sable brush for the Daises, use the larger brush for the bigger daises. All the fine line work was completed with the Rigger and oil paint as thin as ink. A good exercise in double loading, brush control, blending, tonal values and balance using just five paint colours, it may look complicated - it's just built-up in layers. © Jacqui Blackman 2000. |
